Arthur Aldis

Arthur was born in Saxlingham Nethergate in 1880. His parents were George and Charlotte Aldis. They had nine children, one of whom died.

Before he served in the army Arthur lived with his parents at addresses in the Street and on Pitts Hill in Saxlingham Nethergate.

He worked as a farm labourer and was single.

He was a private in 7th Norfolk Regiment, 16764 and then in Bedfordshire Regiment, 35423. He joined the army in November 1914 and went to France with the Norfolk regiment on 19th October 1915.

He  received a gunshot wound to his left leg which resulted in a flesh wound and contusions on 16 August 1916. He was in the Middlesex War Hospital, Napsbury, St Albans until 23 September 1916 when he was given furlough.

He received an army pension.

He died in Saxlingham Nethergate on 22 November 1920 and probate was given to his brother George Aldis, gardener. His estate was £124 14s 2d.
