George was born in Hardwick, Norfolk 27 July 1878. He was baptised in Hardwick Church on 20 October 1878. His parents were Daniel and Martha (nee Binns) Burrett. His father was a farmer in Hardwick. They had six children.
George’s siblings were;

In 1891 the family were living in Foxhole, Saxlingham Thorpe and Daniel was working as a farm labourer. William and George were also working as farm labourers even though George was only 12 years old.
His parents continued to live in Saxlingham but it is not known where George was in 1901. In 1911 he was working in Swardeston as a general labourer on a farm. He was lodging with Arthur Kemp. His brother William’s wife had been called Kemp before her marriage, so Arthur was probably related to her.
During the First World War George was initially in the Essex regiment, 20928. He served in the Balkans arriving there 23 September 1915. He was wounded and received a wound stripe. His name appeared on the list 1 January 1918. It is not known in what way he was wounded or where he was treated. He transferred to the Labour Corps, 593916 and demobbed on 5 May 1919.
In 1919 he married Mary A Mills, born 7 December 1870.
In 1939 they were living in America Cottages, Shotesham, Norfolk. George was working as a casual labourer. It is not known if they had any children.
Mary died in 1946. George died 2 October 1964 at Wicklewood Hospital. His home address was Trinity Hospital, Shotesham All Saints. Trinity Hospital is a series of Alms Houses for the elderly. Probate was granted to William James Symonds, a baker’s rounds man.
