Walter was born on 3 November 1896 in Saxlingham Nethergate. His parents were William and Alice (nee Wilson) Moore. His father was a bricklayer. He came from a large family.

In 1901 the family lived on Pitts Hill in Saxlingham Nethergate.
By 1911 the family had moved to Saxlingham Thorpe and were living in Tower Cottage, which was near the water mill. Walter was working as a farm labourer like his brother William. Albert was working as miller’s carter and John was a private gardener. The other children apart from Alice were at school.
During the First World War Walter was in the Royal Field Artillery. His service numbers were T875992 and 287555. His service records have not survived. It is known that he was a gunner in the Royal Artillery on 20 July 1915. A photograph of his father and three of his brothers in uniform was published in the Eastern Daily Press on that date. There is no other information about his military service.
He returned to Saxlingham Nethergate after the war.
In 1929 the family were living in Lower Tasburgh. In the same year he married Gladys M Harrod,. born 1906, and after their marriage lived in the Council Houses, Flordon, Norfolk.
Their son William G Moore was born in January 1934.
Gladys died aged 31 years and was buried on 15 November 1937 in the church yard of St Michael and All Saints Church, Flordon
In 1939 Walter was living with his parents in the Low Road, Tasburgh. One of the records of this census is officially closed, it is presumed that this entry is of William, his son. He may have returned to live with his parents as he needed help with the looking after of his son. Walter was working as a road worker, (lengthman)
Walter died in March 1976 and his ashes were buried in Flordon churchyard on 2 April 1976. His address on his death was 22 Church Road, Tasburgh.
