Frederick Charles Moore

It has been difficult to identify which Frederick Charles Moore is referred to on the war memorial. More than one person of that name lived in the village.  I now think that the details I gave to the Imperial War Museum are incorrect. I would welcome any information to clarify the matter.

In the Absent voters’ register the address of Frederick Charles Moore is given as Shotesham Lane. This is the same as Alfred and Harry Moore, and so I am presuming he is from the same family.

Frederick was born 21 April 1893 in Saxlingham Nethergate. His parents were William and Phoebe Moore ( nee Falgate). He came from a large family. His parents had 11 children, one of whom died in 1881.

His siblings were

 George Falgate born 1879

Emily Jane born 1881, died same year

Annie Louisa born 1882

Daisy Elizabeth born 1883

Alice Virtue born 1885

Flora Rosina born 1886

Harriet Emily born 1889

Phoebe Emma born 1890

Alfred Leonard born 1895

Harry Frederick 1898

In 1901 and 1911 the family lived in Shotesham Lane in Saxlingham Nethergate. His father was a market gardener.

Frederick joined the Royal Army Medical Corps, service  number 475336. His service records have not survived.

He returned to Saxlingham Nethergate at the end of the war and in the early 1920s was living with his parents in Shotesham Lane.

In July 1924 he married Lucy Isabel Green, born 26 July 1897.

In 1939 they lived at 23 Exchange Street, Attleborough, Wayland. He was working as a gardener/ chauffeur. She was in the Voluntary Aid Detachment. It is not known if they had any children.

Lucy died in 1952 and Frederick died in May 1985.
