The village war memorial stands on a small green in the centre of the village.  The village saw pits once stood on this site. It is said that the oak tree which was planted on the green to celebrate Queen Victoria’s jubilee was moved to the Church Green to make room for the memorial.

The memorial resembles a market cross and is made of brick with an oak and  pin tile roof. It has steps on the western and eastern sides.

Bronze Plaque

The names of those who died in the First World War are displayed on a bronze plaque attached to the central support of the cross.

Stone slab displaying names of those who returned

Four stone slabs on the outer faces of two of the supporting piers of the memorial record the names of those who served in the war but who returned.

No one from the village was killed during the Second World War though several men served in the forces and some were prisoners of war in Europe or the Far East.
