Charles was born 3 October 1891 in Saxlingham Nethergate. His parents were William and Ellen (nee Aldis) Poyntz. His father was a carpenter and he worked on the Saxlingham Nethergate Estate. They had twelve children one of whom died before 1911.

The family lived on the Street, Saxlingham Nethergate.
In 1911 Charles was living with the Laws family at Lone Barn, Spixworth, Norfolk as a boarder. He was a blacksmith apprentice and worked for Joseph Laws who was a master blacksmith.
His service records have not survived but it is known that he was a shoeing smith in the Royal Horse Artillery. His service number was 98027. He arrived in France on 18 March 1915.
At the end of the war he returned to Saxlingham and lived with his family.
In 1924 he married Ella Maud Charlotte Rigg, born 21 February 1892. Her father Robert Rigg was a carpenter and she came from Easton Colton Marlingford, Norfolk.
Their daughter Evelyn E Poynts was born 24 May 1925.
In 1939 the family were living on Barford Road, in Marlingford. Charles was working as a blacksmith. His daughter was living at home.
Charles died on 21 August 1962 in the West Norwich Hospital, Norwich.
His wife lived to be a hundred years old and died on 11 June 1992. At the time of her death she lived in The Square, Barford Road, Marlingford.
